No two days on the air ambulance are ever the same for our clinicians. Detailed below are just some of the incidents our aircraft have been to in the last few weeks...

6 November: A man in his seventies was airlifted by Anglia One following a cardiac arrest in a field in Thetford, Norfolk. The clinical team of Dr Victor Inyang and paramedic Gary Steward were flown to the scene in the south of the town and landed in the field (pictured above) in which a fair had been set up for Bonfire Night. St John Ambulance and an EEAST First Responder were already on scene and managed to get the man’s heart beating again as the EAAA medical crew arrived. The team then anaesthetised the patient and he was airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further assessment and treatment in 14 minutes.
20 November: A 13 year old boy was flown to hospital after an accident while taking part in a motocross event. He suffered a broken pelvis and collar bone.
28 November: An 87-year-old woman was airlifted by Anglia Two after she sustained a head injury following a fall down some stairs. The incident occurred in Wilstead, Bedfordshire, and the clinical team of Dr Haris Begovic and EEAST Critical Care Paramedic Jemma Varela were flown to the scene by Captain Chris Sherriff and landed in a field next to the patient’s house. The pair worked closely with the EEAST ambulance crew who were already on scene to provide initial treatment. She was then immobilised on a spinal board and flown to Addenbrooke’s for further assessment and specialist treatment to head and wrist injuries.
1 December: Anglia Two was called to attend a woman in her mid 40s who fell from her horse while out hunting and landed upside down in a deep ditch in a field surrounded by woodland in Weston Colville, near Newmarket. The aircraft was tasked because the patient was difficult to reach – the accident site was almost a mile from the nearest road. It landed in the field close to her and Dr Matt Warner and EEAST Critical Care Paramedic Jemma Varela then assessed and stabilised her. They also gave her pain relief. Because the ditch was so deep, they were unable to extricate her safely on their own but, once additional resources arrived in an off road vehicle, she was extricated and escorted by the air ambulance crew to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a road ambulance.
11 December: The crew of Anglia Two attended an 18 year old man who had suffered a head injury during a judo competition in Thetford that was a qualifier for the Commonwealth Games. He was treated at the scene by the air ambulance medics and taken to hospital by road.
18 December: Six patients were treated by the crew of Anglia Two after the bus they had been travelling in collided with a wall. The incident occured on London Road in Great Chesterford, Cambridgeshire, and the helicopterlanded in a field nearby. One female patient was treated for possible spinal injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment, three walking wounded were taken to hospital and a further two patients were assessed and treated at the scene. The incident was co-ordinated by staff from Cambridge Ambulance Station and police and the fire and rescue service were also on scene.
23 December: Anglia One airlifted an 11 year old boy who collapsed suffering a head injury. He was sedated and flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for a neurological assessment.
